We find these books virtually indispensable
for inspiration, information and guiding us through many enjoyable meals cooked
from the fireplace.
-
Try "The Magic of Fire" for bold authenticity and to
better understand the romantic aspect of hearth cuisine.
-
We are very happy to see "The Open
Hearth Cookbook" back in print. This book combines the best of both;
an authentic and comprehensive representation of fireplace cooking and
an impressive collection modernized recipes.
-
Steve Raichlen's books
are first rate contemporary cookbooks that use common tools and techniques many
of which are adaptable to the fireplace ("Indoor Grilling" has a section devoted
to it). Although grilling, barbeque, and fire cooking in general is considered
by some to be basic or lacking in dimension, Steve manages to bring depth,
creativity, and a worldly touch to all of his recipes.
- For those interested in the
nitty-gritty of this subject, some old-time design guides and an
excellent book on wood burning round out our selection
