There are a few important things to look for
when buying a quality knife; the steel (and how it is processed), the thickness
of the blade, the sharpness of the edge (how long it stays sharp and how easy it
is to sharpen), how the knife feels in your hand (handle shape and design) and
how it performs. After researching many of top brands on the market we found one
line that had was being used by some of the very best chefs in the country
(Thomas Kellner, Charlie Trotter, Eric Ripert). We asked professional knife
sharpeners and they concurred - MAC knives are the best. They consistently place
at the top of comparative reviews (Cooking
for Engineers Forum, Cook's Illustrated, July 2004) and in our personal
experience, it all holds up.
Most of the knives below are MAC knives. We
have tried to select a good range of popular styles and prices that will meet
most of your cooking needs. Where a MAC knife was not available or we found
something better, that item was added.
Bonus - Now most knives come with a custom
KnifeSafe
plastic blade protector and our
Knife Wiping Cloth Kit included ($9.00 value). |
