The clockwork SpitJack is the real deal.
Modeled after original "clockjack" designs (http://www.ballandball-us.com/spitjack.html) used
in Europe and colonial America, this charming, rustic machine gives an authentic
feel of what it must have been like when the fireplace was the home's main
cooking appliance. Although it takes more of an effort to operate (you must
rewind the clock spring every 12-15 minutes), has less of a cooking capacity,
makes more noise than the electric model (there is a little bell that rings to
warn you when the spin time is running down), and is more expensive,
we still consider it our favorite.
