I originally thought this was a knife there would be very little use for (its between a heavy duty cleaver and a regular chef's knife). However the first day I brought it out I found myself using it to cut up fish, chicken and even tougher vegetables. If you are using a cheap all-purpose knife or if your all-purpose knife is on the heavy side, you may be able to use that one for everything. If however you have a higher quality ( sharper, more brittle, more expensive) knife and don't want to risk the damage, this cleaver is indispensable. The shape is just right and don't let the small size and lighter weight fool you - this is a rugged piece that can handle almost anything. The best of both worlds, perhaps this should be your all-purpose knife!
