Raclette is the name of a cheese that originated in Switzerland but is now
made in the Alpine regions of France as well. It is also the name of a dining
experience of which the melted Raclette cheese in the central ingredient.
Traditionally, cow herders would heat the cheese by a campfire and "scrape" (the
literal meaning of raclette) the melted portion off and onto a piece of
bread. The dish evolved to include boiled potatoes, cornichons, dried meats and
other condiments and is either done by the fireplace or with special appliances
created especially for the experience.
Raclette is a very simple but satisfying cooking experience that can be done
casually while you socialize with friends or enjoy time with the family. In the
future we will be offering a complete line of Raclette utensils and accessories,
but for now this special knife will make your Raclette experience a little
easier and add a touch of authenticity.
